A home automation system which inspired by Tony Stark's AI assistant was named a semi-finalist in last year's Hackaday contest. The name is project Jarvis, the home manager is capable of controlling nearly every aspect of modern-day house. IamTeknik, the maker of Jarvis said "It’s all driven by sophisticated hardware and software to help make your life, and the life of others, much better". Incorporated with many useful features, Jarvis is designed to make your home more comfortable and possibly make you less lonely.
As the world around us gets more and more connected, it is only logical to have some kind of program or an artificial intelligence that can help us keep track of things at home. with this A.I. assistant, things like switching off the light and turning off the stove can be done automatically. The home manager can do these thing with or without our commands, when the situation requires it, it will analyse the situation and take action based on its own observation.
Project Jarvis can be controlled via voice command, computer apps, and android app. its speech recognition software will analyse your voice and check it against its command list and take action if a match is found. If you are not in position to talk , you can use its computer or android app to interact with it. Its accompanying computer app works on Linux, Mac, Windows and Solaris, and can be configured for remote access. The maker already embedded NFC technology which will allow remote access and is currently working on employing gesture recognition. This way, a home owner can interact with Jarvis by simply tapping his smartphone or waving a hand.
Jarvis is equipped with a complex neural network programmed as a decision maker which will help save electricity and reduce monthly bill. Electricity usage from each room is logged by an SD card on an Arduino Mega (ATmega2560). The logged data will be analyzed and compared by the neural network. When the process is done, decisions will be made on how to manage electricity usage in the most efficient way.
Aside from all house related features, Jarvis is also capable of handling your social activity. It can read notifications, SMS messages, and social network feeds, and can even reply to each of them if told what to write through its built-in speech -to-text technology.
The current version of Jarvis is not finished, The finished version will incorporate more features than it now has. The promised features are finger print scanner, an automated door lock, and a mounted tablet. also planning a head, The maker hopes to incorporate a sensor that tracks sleep patterns and monitors temperature, humidity, and light. And lastly to make things tidy and organized, The maker will include a black box that will house all the system's wireless transceiver and hardware.
An A.I. assistant like Jarvis is possibly one of things that we all wish to have when watching Iron Man movies. And thanks to project like this one, the omnipresent virtual assistant is inching closer and closer to reality . Interested in this futuristic project?
