Robert Downey Jr. Does not Wear Full Body Suit Any More

Robert Downey Jr. is without doubt a great actor. His portrayal of the genius billionaire Tony Stark has been spectacular. He brought the character to life, and he did that almost effortlessly. His impact on the character is huge, Before he took the role, Tony Stark was not  really that popular. Still, For Robert Doney Jr. playing the armored avenger was not always easy, Especially when he had to wear the Iron Man suit.

The Suit was not really practical, it was bulky, uncomfortable and inflexible, acting while in it was hard. Knowing this,  director and production team came up with various way to ease up the pain, they did quite a few things like making the suit lighter, more flexible and more comfortable, and at some point they even managed to create the suit digitally so the actor didn't have to wear the full body suit anymore.

After the first movie, Robert Downey Jr. never really wore the full body suit anymore. Once he saw what the studio could do with CG version of the suit, he knew that he didn't have to wear as much of it. As a result, He often wore only parts of the suit like the helmet, sleeves, and chest while other parts would be added  digitally in post production. Usually those parts  were accompanied by a CG suit. a suit with some mark on it specifically designed to help the studio put the CG version of the Iron Man armor on the actor's body.

But although CGI can help with the suit most of the times, in some cases, RDJ  had to wear the bulky suit himself. This usually happened when there was a need for a close up shot  like the party scene in Iron Man 2. Still, the bulky suit which he wore was not a full body suit, It's just a partial suit from the waist up . The studio didn't really bother with the legs part, because most of the close-up shots are from the waist up. Wearing a few parts of the suit or just top half of it certainly ease up the pain of wearing the full body suit.  RDJ can now feel a lot more comfortable when filming a scene with the suit on. And you can be certain that it's the only time RDJ is actually in the suit. while some other times, once  the faceplate is down, whenever you see Iron Man, It's actually the CG rendering  Iron Man or a stunt man.

In the end, the fact that RDJ didn't have to wear the full body suit anymore is a good thing. Not only it can save time during filming, it also give more freedom and time for the actor to focus on his acting. Because other than a good story, A good acting is what makes a good movie.
