4 Things About Iron Man Suit You Might Not Know

Filmmakers have been doing all sorts of weird and unexpected things on set in order to deliver the best possible scene to the viewers. We never know these things until we see the behind-the-scenes footage. Sometimes, it's surprising to see the amount of effort they put into a single scene.

Iron Man movies are no different, filming the suit is known to be one of the trickiest part. Production team had to do some adjustments to the suit to make sure it looks good and believable on screen. furthermore, there are things about the Iron Man suit that many fans are not aware of. Things that they wouldn't know unless they participate in the filming process. The good news is that we have the information and are ready to share it with you. Here are  4 things about  Iron Man suit which might surprise you :

The suit does not fit the average human body

In the comic, The proportion of the body is usually eight heads tall. The artist draws this  way to give the character that heroic proportion and stance. The body proportions of the suit follow this rule. The rules that doesn't really work in real life because the  average proportion of the human body is seven heads tall. To solve this problem, Robert Downey Jr. and Don cheadle need to lose the trousers. That's why in many behind-the-scenes pictures you see the actors only wore the top half of the suit. The lower part of the suit was added digitally in post production. Also, there were physical legs that could snap into place for when the full body suit was  necessary.

Filmmakers destruct the suit as they go

As seen in the movie, the condition of the suit got worse over time. all those battles and explosions naturally would do some damages. On set, These damages were really done to the physical suit by the production team. Sounds fine, right ? but what if i tell you that they didn't really have a vast supply of suits, can you guess how they did it ? Yeah, there is only one way to do it - Shoot the movie in sequence. And they did exactly that, they have  3 suits, one was kept in top condition, while the remaining two was swapped back and forth during production.

There is a battery inside the suit

Notice the lights on the suit ? The light was powered by a battery kept inside the suit. Filmmakers said that they made their own special battery to power all those lights. When asked about the details of the battery, They seemed reluctant to share that information.

Many scenes used  CG Suit rather than physical one

Considering the complexity of the scenes, using the physical suit at all times is practically impossible. Take flying scene for example, filming the physical suit in front of the green screen would limit the suit flying maneuvers. On top of that, the scene would look unnatural and less believable.Using CGI in this situation is not only smart but also make the scene more dynamic in term of angle.

With the advancement of the  CGI technology, It's getting harder to tell whether some scenes used CGI or not nowadays. This fact encourages filmmakers to use more CGI in their movies. In Iron Man movies for example, recently they used the digital suit more often than the physical one. Even for some scenes that can be done using the physical suit, they prefer to use the digital version instead.

Below are the pictures of the scene when Tony Stark flirting with Pepper pots while wearing his Iron Man suit. Filmmakers used CG suit here, even when the scene is very simple.
